We are currently looking for a Director of Finance for our prestigious client.  In this exciting role you will report to the Executive Director and CFO.  The ideal candidate will have experience in large Not for Profits or   Public Sector environments. In this role you will be working with budgets, operational and capitol budgeting, procurement, and treasury investments while providing leadership to the Finance department with regards to short and long term cash management, investments functions, budget formulation, capital expenditures, procurement, financial systems administration and financial and management reporting. This includes understanding and responding to financial and related issues, developing consistent management approaches and procedures, and seeking out opportunities for continuous improvement in financial procedures and best practices.  In addition, the Director oversees the provision of, by a third party service provider, onsite print, mail and copy services, including the leasing arrangements for needed equipment,  The Director carries 2IC responsibility in the absence of the Chief Financial Officer.



  • A university undergraduate degree plus completion of a recognized accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA), or alternately a Master’ s degree in Business or Public Administration, or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ related experience in finance, budget formulation and financial reporting, preferably experience working with a not-for-profit organization.  At least 5 years would be required working at senior management level. 
  • Broad understanding of the workings of North American financial markets.
  • Thorough knowledge of fund accounting, financial markets, investment management, cash flow techniques, budgeting techniques, financial analysis and reporting and policy research methods.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting, particularly GAAP for not-for-profit organizations and controller functions, including accounts payable, procurement, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Thorough understanding of the impact of technology on the finance and accounting function, particularly with respect to analysis and presentation of financial information.
  • Expressive and persuasive in both spoken and written language for individual and / or group situations (Convocation, committees, management, senior management).
  • Interprets, applies and presents complex information in an audience appropriate manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial software applications and spreadsheet analysis, particularly the use of database applications, queries and custom report generation.
