Litigation Assistant

Location: Downtown, Toronto


General Responsibilities:
  • Gathering and reviewing information from claim files to ascertain circumstances of accidents, injuries and losses in order to open a file.
  • Scheduling appointments for matters such as examinations for discovery, mediations and court hearings.
  • Preparing and processing legal documentation in compliance with Rules of Civil Procedure or  Small Claims Court Rules.
  • Reviewing invoices, expenses and payment processing received from workers and through the courts.
  • Filing and lifting writs.
  • Bringing any discrepancies to Legal Counsel' s attention.
  • Ensuring database is up to date with current file status and filing documentation appropriately. 
  • Completing a range of activities to support the Prosecutions Practice
  • Ordering transcripts and tracking down appearance dates or other precedential  materials.

Administrative Duties:
  • Maintaining abeyance systems
  • Travel and meeting coordination
  • Minute taking
  • Maintaining the law library
  • Delivering confidential documents to various Ministries and  Lawyers' offices
  • Assisting other support groups and provide backup coverage, as required.

  • This position requires strong oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and time management skills
  • You must be  interact professionally and diplomatically with clients, opposing counsel, parties, and court officials.
  • You will have a good working knowledge of civil litigation procedures and forms, preferably with experience in general litigation, enforcement, and mortgage remedies.
  • You must be proficient with Microsoft Office and have excellent data entry/typing skills.
