Business Overview

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring optimal functioning of all databases. This includes management of performance, capacity, security and recoverability for the Oracle, Progress and MS SQL databases.  You will be responsible for planning, procurement, installation, configuration, testing, security, tuning and maintenance of all Database related technologies in support of the   businesses as required. You will lead a team of database administrators with multiple DBMS, integration and development skills as it relates to database technologies.  In this role you will prepare and manage the departmental budget, look for opportunities to improve efficiencies as well as develop business plans and strategies.


Database and Infrastructure Management

o   Responsible for architecture, planning, procurement, installation, configuration, testing and maintenance of all Database related technologies in support of the business

o   Ensure databases are supportable (by vendor) and under enforceable maintenance contracts at all times

o   Document processes as it relates to production and DR procedures

o   Ensure security and access compliance - including encryption where necessary

o   Field database audit requests and liaise with auditors on all aspects of database management

o   Research and champion the deployment of new technologies (e.g. Cloud) and features that benefit the business.

o   Continually seeks methods for enhancing the efficiency of the database environment

o   Responsible for timely delivery of multiple projects

Service and Change Management

o   Accountable for reliability, availability and security of the Database systems and infrastructure (24x7)

o   Ensure databases are properly tuned and performing optimally

o   Ensure availability SLA' s are consistently met throughout the year

o   Represent the database team at change and (deployment) risk management meetings


o   University degree or college diploma in Information Systems or Engineering

o   More than 5 years of technology experience including 3 years in a people management preferably in the financial services industry

o   Thorough understanding and hands on experience in advanced RDBMS technologies as applied to various database systems

o   Fundamental knowledge of administering Progress Databases

o   Excellent performance tuning and database monitoring skills

o   Strong system integration skills with experience in enterprise storage, backup and recovery systems


o   Progress DB, Oracle advanced database technologies (Oracle 12 /RAC), MS SQL Server2016

o   UNIX, Windows and Linux scripting experience
