JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title: Mill Operator

Division:   Operations

Reporting Positions:   Production Manager (dotted line to Shift Supervisors)

 

Summary    Responsible for running a 5 ton per hour grinding ball mill system (Hosakawa)

 
  • Ensure the system is fed with raw material and that it is operating within established specifications, providing all necessary feed stock to the facility.

Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Maintain a loader 930 G (Caterpillar)
  • Operates loader when required:
  • Feed the cullet to the dryer system
  • Stockpile received cullet
  • Move snow during winter
  • Maintain outside storage area to established standards

 
  • Runs Ball Mill Grinding circuit
  • Required to monitor equipment for quality of output product
  • Required to monitor equipment for equipment issues, faults, wear
  • Capable of performing routine maintenance required for this type of equipment; greasing, small tools for gasket replacement, pneumatic tools for removing wear protection plates, etc.
  • Monitors and cleans grizzly at discharge of apron feeder
  • Maintain and cleans ball mill room, sieve 7 and removes plastic waste from sieve 7 over flow.
  • Assist maintenance if requested on required maintenance items.
  • Samples ball mill classifier product to ensure ground glass is in spec.
  • Performs plant clean up during shift to ensure plant is maintained in a proper fashion.
  • Helps to clean walk ways from snow in winter (sands all walk ways)
  • Removes waste from waste silos – using loader
  • Removes waste from discharge of kilns – using loader
  • Fills in for all operators for break coverage, holiday coverage or when process upsets occur.

Regulatory:
  • Ensures strict compliance to safety rules and procedures while on the premises.
  • Complies with all legal requirements of the local governing laws.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records for possible Ministry of Labour inquiries.

Recommend participation and/or enrolment in educational activities, workshops, and seminars, which contribute, to a program of self-improvement.

HIRING PROFILE
 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

 
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience combined with a basic understanding of manufacturing operations and related processes.
  • Five years experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with at least two years’ experience in process-based environment.
  • Ability to read and understand procedures.
  • Good physical shape, capable of lifting 50 lbs, flights of stairs, cleaning.
  • Maintenance / Mechanical type skills are a benefit.  Ability to weld is a benefit. 
  • Ability to have fall arrest, forklift, confined space, crane training
  • WHMIS training.
