Senior Manager, Canadian Pension & Savings Plans

Our client, a major bank in Toronto is seeking to recruit Senior Manager-Canadian Pension & Savings Plans. He/She would manage the Canadian Pension Team. Responsible for strategy integration and direction of the Canadian Retirement DB and DC plans, Employee Share Ownership Plan, RCA plan and SERP plan.  He/She would support the governance, audit, compliance, regulatory filing of the Canadian Pension Plans (PPIC, PC and RCA).  

 Key Accountabilities:
  1. Develop the strategy and policy of the Canadian Retirement Program to support the enterprise vision and that plans are competitive;
  2. Responsible for relationship with third-party vendor for administration of Canadian Pension and Savings Plan and ensure the Canadian Retirement Plans and ESOP plans are administered to comply with plan provisions and legislative requirements;
  3. Integrate the plans’ policies to be cohesive with each other and to align in principle with the  enterprise retirement plans.
  4. Integrate the plans’ policies to work in conjunction with the Health plans to provide a comprehensive total market competitive offering.
  5. Integrate policies with other HR functions (i.e., Talent, Employee Relations, Acquisitions &Divestitures, Diversity, and Compensation).
  6. Represent Retirement and Performance, Rewards & HR Operations on Canadian governance committees with other SST functions.
  7. Support diverse Pension Canadian Committees.  Ensure committees have the proper training / appropriate membership and table and properly action items at their meetings. Work with in-house and external legal as necessary.
  8. Set day-to-day policy direction; coach and train Canadian Retirement Team.
  9. Responsible for Board, HR Committee annual reports as it relates to Canadian Retirement annual review.
  10. Work with cross functional units, such as finance (for funding policy and contribution setting); legal (for plan compliance); risk, strategic sourcing, audit, etc.
  11. Provide general pension consulting and advice to HR Business Partner

  • Bachelor’ s degree in actuarial sciences an resources or business administration a related field
  • Preferred but not required Graduate studies: Masters Industrial Relations or MBA 
  • Professional certificate – CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialize) or CBP (Certified Benefit Professional)
  • 12-15 years related experience
  • Proven managerial skills
  • Expert Defined Contribution Pension Plan, Defined Benefit Pension Plan and Employee Share Ownership Purchase (Qualified and Non-Qualified knowledge)
  • In-depth analytical, oral and written communication skills
  • Up to date knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations & legislation
  • Working knowledge of Trust and Securities functions
  • Working knowledge of governance structure including board and fiduciary committee functions
  • Working knowledge of actuarial assumptions with respect to qualified and non qualified DB Plans
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic financial literacy
